The Listening Heart ~ A Walk With God

I went for a 3-mile walk the other day around 7 am, and it was a beautifully clear and sunny morning with a little bit of early spring chill in the air! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky nor any morning haze, just a gentle breeze that brought up the refreshing smell of springtime, and fresh cut grass! The birds were singing their morning song without a care as to who was listening! Flowers were blooming and trees were budding!
I was reminded that everything God spoke into existence is still here, bearing its original name and serving its intended purpose appointed by a thoughtful Creator! Even in the midst of an obvious crisis we can see the consistency and faithfulness of God!
While earth is NOT heaven by any stretch of the imagination, I love that the Maker of heaven and earth has given us beauty to enjoy while we are here and has not withheld it in the course of a day. The best way I know to describe earth is that we get a taste of both heaven and hell here. Because of the forgiveness of a loving Father and the sinfulness of mankind, we are allowed to experience both. Right now, we are seeing this played out in the best and the worst of our circumstances, in the best and worst of leaders, in the best and worst of the media, and in the best and worst in people’s responses to these circumstances.
As I continued to walk and ponder these things, I began to pray for my husband, my children and their wives/husbands, my grandchildren, my mother, world leaders, and many others. I prayed that all of us would remember our Creator who has given us everything we are and all that we have, including our purpose to serve Him with all that He has given us. I recalled Joshua 24:15 that says,
“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods your fathers served which were beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
*I cry out that in the days ahead, we all would honor the Lord with our whole hearts and trust Him to establish the work of our hands as we seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness.
*I pray that the desires of our hearts would be in line with His.
*I remind Him of and trust in His promises for the good that He desires to give as HIS RESPONSE to our prayers offered by faith.
*I choose to serve the Lord God of Hosts, my Father in heaven as my Source today.
*I believe His word, trust the character of my Promise-KeepingGod, and live with obedience in my position of favor from a loving Heavenly Father.
The rhythm of this life is ever-changing and may sometimes be paused or changed but can take on a new and deeper meaning if we know from whom our help comes from!
